A Filer, Idaho police officer shot a black labrador to death in front of its owner's house during a kid's birthday party last Saturday. Officer Tarek Hassani was seen kicking and yelling at two dogs in a footage captured by his vehicle's dashboard-mounted camera. The incident happened at around 5:30 p.m., when the owner, Rick Clubb, was wrapping up a party for his son's 9-year-old birthday. Hassani arrived at the house after receiving a complaint about Clubb's three unleashed dogs.
According to Hassani, a chihuahua and two other dogs were running around outside when he arrived at the scene. Hassani claimed he shot the black labrador down in self-defence. Clubb counters that the black labrador, named "Hooch," was not displaying aggressive behavior and that Hassani was simply too trigger-happy. Clubb has Parkinson's disease and Hooch was his trained service dog.
"He didn't have to pull out his .45 and shoot my dog," said Clubb in an interview with the Times-News, noting that the shooting took place outside his son's room and that the bullet could have ricocheted inside.
Hassani then ticketed Clubb for letting his animals run around without leashes, which led to a heated exchange between the two.
"Well, my dog is dead," Clubb said. "I don't think that's fair."
